Trader Joe's

Just a quick post about my local Trader Joe's...I was stocking up on baked tofu yesterday and noticed that the packages of raw pancetta were right next to the baked tofu. On the shelf below were the faux deli meats where someone had kindly stuck a few packages of real deli meat instead of returning them to their rightful home. Anyway, I was thinking about mentioning this to a store employee, even though I tend to be a little shy about these things, when a store employee came up and asked if I was finding everything easily (our store is newly reorganized). I explained what I'd noticed and he said it'd be handled that night. :)

On another note, I'm having lunch at Follow Your Heart both today AND tomorrow! I'm still too shy to take photos, but I'll report back on my culinary adventures!

kudos for telling the Trader Joe's employee about the meat being right next to the tofu! At my Whole Foods, it really bothers me that they stock "carton-less eggs" in the produce section (yes, you read that right - eggs in the produce section. ick!!). After reading what you did, I think I might take a stance as well - thanks! :0)

I'm NEVER shy about taking pictures when I'm in a restaurant - as a paying customer, I have a right to photograph my food; and I only take one picture, so that my camera isn't flashing more than once (I don't want people to think that the paparazzi is in the restaurant, haha).

The restaurant sounds wonderful! Don't be shy about taking pictures... when I take photos, I'd say it takes me less than a minute from the time I pull the camera out of my purse, until the time I'm putting it back in. After turning the camera on, I usually change the setting to "no flash" (so I don't attract attention, LOL) and then snap! I've taken many photos and no one has ever said anything. The first time you'll feel like all the world is watching you, but they're not. You can do it. :)

Thank you all for the encouragement and advice. I'll do my best to buck up and take pictures in restaurants from now on. :) I do occasionally remember to take photos of what I cook, but I have yet to figure out how to post them. I guess that's the next step.

I'm glad you all think I did the right thing at TJ's. I was nervous at first, but I think I did the right thing. :)

Mmmm Follow Your Heart makes great vegan products. I can only imagine that their restaurant is just as good, if not better!

Oh, Little Vegan, if you only knew the wonders of Follow Your Heart. It's a little hippie co-op with a vegetarian store and cafe all in one quaint place. I can't imagine it's changed much since it was founded in 1970. Come visit L.A. and I'll make sure you get to try FYH!

Hi Maybepigscanfly! Thank you for your kind words. :) I am a Follow Your Heart lover through-and-through. It's one of my favorite weekend brunch/lunch spots. Such a great environment and the staff is awesome...the food is amazing, too! I'm so glad you've been able to experience it on several occasions. :)

Hey guys. I just tried Trader Joe's baked tofu in savory flavor and I am hooked. Tastes great! I have a silly question for you, as I am new to tofu. If I bought plain tofu and wanted to get that smoked, baked flavor, how would I cook it? Any suggestions?
